Museum of Mineral Resources

The Museum of Mineral Resources, showcasing Azerbaijan's rich mineral deposits, was established in 1943. It was founded at Baku State University’s Faculty of Geology through the initiative of academician Mirali Gashgay and Professor Aziz Asgarov. While the museum initially housed around 500 exhibits, its collection has now expanded to over 6,000 items.

To enhance students’ expertise in geology, the museum features an extensive collection of minerals, petrography samples, and valuable mineral resources. Its uniquely structured thematic exhibitions help students gain in-depth knowledge of geology and geological engineering. Regularly organized thematic displays and expositions cover subjects such as mineralogy, crystallography, petrography, and mineral resources. The exhibits represent key ore regions including Goygol, Gazakh, Dashkasan, Gadabay, Kalbajar, and Shamkir, with a special focus on mineral samples collected from the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Since 1997, the museum has housed the Academician Musa Aliyev Cabinet, which has evolved into a rich library with a collection based on the personal books of the esteemed scientist.
