The Gazakh Branch of the Ganja State Pedagogical Institute named after H. Zardabi (currently Baku State University’s Gazakh Branch) was established by the Decision No. 69 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated March 25, 1991.
The Azerbaijan Teachers’ Institute and its branches (currently Baku State University’s Qazakh Branch) were created by the Decree No. 349 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, dated June 13, 2000.
The Gazakh Branch of the Azerbaijan Teachers’ Institute (currently Baku State University’s Gazakh Branch) was recognized as a branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University based on the Decree No. 1582 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated November 26, 2015.
Based on the Decree No. 2014 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated April 29, 2016, from July 1, 2016, the Gazakh Branch of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University became the Gazakh Branch of Baku State University.
The branch has 1 faculty (Pedagogy) and 4 departments (Languages, Literature and Their Teaching Methodology, Social and Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Informatics, Pedagogical Subjects). The total number of employees (on the staff) is 139, including 66 faculty members (1 Doctor of Sciences, Professor; 10 PhD holders, including 7 associate professors), 4 scientific library staff, 7 teaching support staff, and 62 administrative and auxiliary staff.
The number of undergraduate students is 1691 in 17 specialties (including 4 specialties in correspondence courses), of which 1498 are full-time and 193 are part-time students.
Graduate education began in the 2019/2020 academic year, and the number of graduate students is 13.
The structures functioning in the branch include the Directorate, the Teaching Department, the General Department, the Student and Archives Department, the Department of Student Affairs and Public Relations, the Computer and Information Center, the Accounting Department, and the Household Department. The branch also has 2 laboratories (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology), and 1 cabinet (Labor Training and Arts). The branch's classroom facilities include the Heydar Aliyev Auditorium, 27 classrooms, 2 computer rooms, a reading hall, a library reading room, a sports hall, and an event hall.
