The Guba Training-Internship and Recreation Center is located in the village of Second Nugadi, Guba district, one of the most scenic regions of Azerbaijan. Situated 168 km from Baku, the center covers an area of 8 hectares. During the summer months, it is also used for the recreation of the university's faculty.
The foundation of the center was laid based on the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic (then the Council of Ministers of the Azerbaijan SSR) on July 10, 1967, under the leadership of Enver Alikhanov, the then Chairman of the Council of Ministers. According to that decree, the Guba district Executive Committee was tasked with allocating 8 hectares of land from the Jdanov Soviet farm (now the village of Second Nugadi) to create a training and internship base for the Biology Faculty of S.M. Kirov Azerbaijan State University. However, the allocated land was far from the ideal site for such a base. It was a remote, roadless, unmaintained area surrounded by dense forests, apple orchards, and shrubs, offering only the natural resources available for conducting practical lessons. The university administration worked for nearly two years to create a path and conditions for setting up tents for practical lessons. Finally, in the summer of 1970, a group of Biology faculty students held their first practical lessons under tents placed under apple trees after traveling along the newly created path. These "tent-based practical lessons" continued until 1991.

In 1993, due to the Armenian aggression, 38 IDP families from Gubadly were temporarily accommodated at the base. This process continued until 2012, during which time practical lessons for students were suspended. In 2007, to address the problems caused by the landslide in Quba’s Gulazi village and relocate the village to new land, the state allocated 60 hectares of land in the Ashaghy Atuj village. On this land, 189 houses with garden plots of 8 sot each were constructed. Some of the IPDs from the Guba Training-Internship and Recreation Base, who had applied to improve their living conditions, were relocated to the newly constructed village, which led to the establishment of the new Training-Internship Center.
Later, the Scientific Council of Baku State University decided to rename the "Biology Faculty’s Training-Internship Base" to the "Baku State University Training-Internship and Recreation Center."
Instead of repairing the long-neglected building, which had deteriorated to its foundation, the decision was made to build a new five-story building at a slightly distant, picturesque location. The new building's area was larger than the 10-story new teaching building of Baku State University completed in 2008. Given that the new building would include not only classrooms but also 150 rooms, a 200-person dining complex, a 300-seat large hall, sports and fitness halls, a library, and various other essential facilities, the scale of the construction project was significant.
On April 28, 2013, the first volunteer workday took place in Nugadi. The subsequent volunteer work intensified, and the faculty staff contributed significantly to the improvement of the area, especially before the grand opening. The newly planted trees and flowers, constructed paths, and landscaped greenery brought new vitality to this beautiful region. Construction work was completed by mid-September, and, as once said by the first rector V.V. Razumovsky upon the opening of the university in 1919, "A light burned at the crossroads of East and West—this is Baku State University," the new Training-Internship and Recreation Center was finally opened in Guba after 45 years.
