Psychological Assistance Sector

The Psychological Support Unit of Baku State University (BSU) was established in 2019. It is the first of its kind among Azerbaijani universities and aims to support the professional and personal development of university staff and students, ensure their psychological well-being and mental resilience and to help students recognize their abilities and cope with emotional challenges.

The unit provides an optimal social-psychological and socio-pedagogical environment for training activities. Its core organizational and operational principles align with modern higher education psychological service standards, integrating scientific, applied, and practical aspects of psychology. It also facilitates diagnostic, predictive, and management functions to benefit all university members.

The Psychological Support Unit fosters an atmosphere of mutual understanding and respect among faculty, administrative staff, and students. This role was particularly crucial during the pandemic, helping students cope with emotional and psychological crises.

The unit conducts training sessions on stress and stress Management, depressive states, psychosomatic issues, couple relationships and personal development.

It also offers psychological consultations on mood disorders, sleep disorders, family counseling, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress and related disorders, sexual problems, couples therapy, harmful habits and addictions.

The unit regularly organizes awareness-raising activities for university staff and students. During the special quarantine period, it provided psychological support via social media, addressing over 300 individual requests and offering professional counseling to students and staff.
