The Training and Experience Base (TEB) of Baku State University has been operating since 1990 in the Altiaghaj settlement ‒ one of the most beautiful corners of Azerbaijan. New cottages and an assembly hall were built and put into operation at the base.
After major repair in 2001, Altiaghaj TEB is also used for professors' and teachers’ recreation. Altiaghaj settlement is located in the foothills of the Greater Caucasus, 120 km from Baku, at an altitude of almost 1100 meters above sea level. The climate here is warm and temperate. The absolute maximum temperature in Altiaghaj settlement in summer is +39.8 degrees, and the absolute minimum temperature in winter is -24 degrees. The relative humidity here is 73%; in January 82%, in July 59%. The average annual rainfall is 587mm, the rainiest months are February (77mm), June (92mm), and September (99.6mm); the least rainy months are July (30mm), August (10mm), and December (10mm). Oaks, hornbeams, walnuts, peanuts, wild pear, apple trees, medlar trees, hawthorns, rosehips, barberries, buckthorns, wormwood bushes, and other plants are widespread in the Atachay River Basin, where the Altiaghaj TEB is located.
Due to its beautiful, charming nature and clean air, Altiaghaj, intended as an ideal space for relaxation and pleasure for Shirvan khans was so named because it was located 42 km (One (1) tree was considered equal to 7 km) from Shamakhi, the then capital. Thanks to its climate, and chemical composition of air and water, the Altiaghaj settlement is considered one of the picturesque places not only of Azerbaijan but also of the entire Caucasus.
