Department activity

The main objective of the Department for Work with Foreign Students is to shape the University’s image as a modern higher education institution in the international education arena, create a favorable social and psychological environment in the country for foreign students, and promote mutual understanding and friendly relations between them and other participants in the teaching and learning process.

Main functions of the Department:

Guided by the “Rules on Education of Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Foreign Countries and of Foreigners and Stateless Persons in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” approved by Resolution No. 125 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 1, 2015, as well as by the instructional letters of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Department carries out the following functions:

  • Ensuring the organization of the admission process of foreign citizens to the University;
  • Establishing relations with local and international organizations, agencies, and diplomatic missions in order to increase the number of admitted foreign students, and preparing memoranda, agreements, and cooperation contracts between the University and international institutions;
  • Organizing online promotional activities to promote the University internationally and attract foreign students;
  • Ensuring participation in international education fairs;
  • Cooperating with relevant structures of the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
  • Establishing and developing relations with foreign graduates.

Duties of the Department:

  • Organizing information days for newly admitted foreign students and familiarizing them with the University’s structural units and services (Academic Center, dean’s offices, tutor services, library, medical services, gym, cafeteria, etc.);
  • Entering relevant information into the “Higher and Secondary Education Information System”;
  • Organizing activities aimed at obtaining temporary residence permits for foreign students in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
  • Informing foreign students about the University’s internal rules and regulations;
  • Providing support in resolving essential issues such as reception upon first arrival in Azerbaijan, accommodation in dormitories, scholarships, medical insurance, and other necessary matters for foreign students studying under intergovernmental scholarship programs and educational grants;
  • Explaining the procedure for submitting initial educational documents of foreign master’s and doctoral students for recognition (nostrification) and organizing result-oriented activities in this direction;
  • Ensuring that foreign students are provided with a “student card”;
  • Delivering various documents approved by the University administration to foreign students;
  • Taking measures to resolve problems encountered by foreign students during the educational process;
  • Organizing cultural, social, and mass events with the participation of foreign students;
  • Submitting information and reports related to foreign students to the University administration in the prescribed manner and format;
  • Conducting surveys to measure the level of satisfaction among foreign students;
  • Organizing the academic activities of foreign students studying at the University within the framework of exchange programs and supporting their adaptation to the new environment;
  • Ensuring cooperation with all structural units of the University;
  • Contributing to the improvement of the University’s position in international rankings and ensuring active participation in international accreditation processes.
