About Information Technologies Center

The Information Technologis Centre was established on July 7, 2015.  

On February 14, 2020, departments of the Centre were established to implement core activities such as the application of internet technologies, the creation of information systems and databases, network and system administration, information security, and technical and software support for computers. 

The Centre organizes the creation of information systems and databases at Baku State University (BSU), as well as implements their enhancement and support. It ensures that changes and innovations in normative and legal acts and legislation are considered in information systems and databases based on proposals from relevant institutions, organizes training to enhance the interconnectivity of information systems and the skills of BSU employees in using information systems, protects information resources and databases from external interference, provides methodological guidance for the operation of information systems, and oversees the execution of these tasks and the use of information systems and databases in accordance with approved instructions. 

Main functions of the Centre 

  • To ensure the creation of new information systems for the university and coordinate their activities ; 
  • To develop various management systems within university structures. 
  • To design and implement new projects in the university's areas of activity. 
  • To maintain and secure the operational status of the corporate network and information resources of the university. 
  • To participate in the preparation, implementation, and continuous development of the information technology strategy for the university. 
  • To engage in international projects that the university joins. 
  • To participate in the arrangement of studying and applying international experience in the field of information technologies. 
  • To assist in implementing significant state programs at the university. 
  • To participate in forming orders for the purchase of ICT equipment at the university. 
  • To provide advice and technical support to the university's structural units during the use of information technologies. 
  • To advise on the application of information technologies in the organization of the educational process. 
  • To design, create, and provide services for the university's local, intranet, and extranet networks. 
  • To create multi-purpose web resources and ensure their security. 
  • To monitor internet traffic for corporate network management, monitoring and analysis, as well as accounting purposes. 
  • To provide technical support for equipment and software during the creation and formation of the electronic library fund, multimedia technologies, and electronic content. 

 

 Main duties of the Centre 

  • To prepare proposals for developing the information and communication technology strategy together with the relevant university institutions and its implementation. 
  • To organize the creation of information systems and databases at the university, implement their enhancement and support. 
  • To ensure that changes and innovations in normative and legal acts and legislation are taken into account in information systems and databases based on proposals from relevant institutions. 
  • To organize the interrelated activities of information systems used at the university. 
  • To protect information resources and databases at the university from external interferences. 
  • To methodically guide the organization of information system operations and oversee the execution of these tasks. 
  • To monitor the use of the university's information systems and databases in accordance with approved instructions. 
  • To coordinate information communication technology issues in international projects in which the university participates. 
  • To organize the creation of multi-purpose web resources for the university and prepare proposals for updating their content and information. 
  • To ensure the participation of Centre employees in conferences, seminars, and other events organized by various international organizations in the field of modern information technologies. 
  • To prepare proposals for Centre employees' participation in training trips and courses to study international experience and new information technologies in the field of information systems development and support. 
  • To organize training to improve the skills of university employees in using information systems. 
  • To prepare orders, decrees, and other official documents related to the Centre's activities or participate in their preparation. 
  • To ensure that computer classrooms are fully operational. 
  • To monitor the effective use of computer equipment during teaching and work processes. 

Employees of BSU can receive support by applying online to the “Support Request Service” established by the Information Technologies Centre if they encounter any technical problems in their work processes.
