In 1967, by order No. 579 of the Board for Science and Technology of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, a research laboratory of semiconductor physics was established at BSU. This laboratory conducted research on ferroelectrics and semiconductor ferroelectrics, wide-bandgap crystals, holography media, photorefractive materials, and liquid crystals. Three employees (A.H. Zeynalli, Sh.M. Afendiev, E.M. Mammadov) received the State Prize of the Azerbaijan Republic in 1986.
In 2005, this laboratory was reorganized into a department of semiconductor physics within the FPI, and since 2019 it has been known as the department of condensed matter physics.
In 2019, one employee received the "Tereggi" medal, and four received the jubilee medal "100 Years of Baku State University (1919-2019)."
The department's staff has published over 1300 scientific articles and made more than 350 presentations at various conferences, obtaining 11 patents.
Currently, the department's research focuses on "Developing technologies for obtaining materials and structures for micro- and nanoelectronics, and studying their optical and electrical properties."
Topic:
- Developing and studying promising materials and structures for solar energy converters
Goal:
- To identify and study materials for use in solar cells as a renewable energy source.
