Faculty of Geology at Baku State University Launches a Master’s Specialization in Petrology

Starting from the 2026/2027 academic year, the Faculty of Geology at Baku State University (BSU) will, for the first time, offer a Master’s specialization in Petrology.
Throughout the program, students will acquire expertise in petrogenetic modeling, thermodynamic calculations, interpretation of geochemical and isotopic data, laboratory analysis, experimental petrological methods, and the use of modern specialized software. The educational process will be based on the application of optical microscopy, electron microprobe analysis, X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, and other advanced analytical techniques.
The curriculum includes courses such as Research Methodology, Academic Writing and Scientific Communication, Magmatism, Geodynamics and Mineralization, Petrology, Magmatism of Azerbaijan, Ore Deposits of Azerbaijan, Magmatism of Active Continental Margins, Mineralogy of Hydrothermal Processes, Petrology of Igneous Rocks, Geochemistry of Magmatic Processes, Petrology of Metamorphic and Metasomatic Rocks, Interpretation of Geochemical Data, and Metasomatism and Mineralization.
The knowledge and practical skills gained through the program will prepare graduates for careers in geological mapping, mineral exploration and prospecting, geochemical research, as well as positions in research institutes, geological service organizations, advanced analytical laboratories, and higher education institutions.
