BSU Hosts Local Conference of Youth of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

The opening ceremony of the UN Local Conference of Youth on Climate– LCOY Azerbaijan 2025 – was held at Baku State University (BSU). The event is organized by the “EkoSfera” Ecological and Social Center, in partnership with BSU and “SEA BREEZE Resort,” with media support from CBC.
The opening ceremony of the event was held at Baku State University (BSU), which was addressed by BSU Rector Elchin Babayev, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, UN Climate Change High-Level Champion for COP29 Azerbaijan Nigar Arpadarai, the Youth Climate Champion for COP29 Leyla Hasanova and EkoSfera Head Firuza Sultanzada.
More than 150 young climate leaders, government representatives, international organizations, and experts are participating. BSU Rector Elchin Babayev stressed that Azerbaijan’s state policy under President Ilham Aliyev prioritizes “green development” and renewable energy, noting that Karabakh and East Zangezur are designated as “green energy zones.” He emphasized that youth initiatives at BSU, such as EcoSpace and Ecoenergy Station, prepare environmentally responsible leaders, and expressed confidence that LCOY Azerbaijan 2025 will contribute to COP30 in Brazil.
The conference continues with seminars and panel discussions on climate challenges and solutions. The second day will take place on September 2 at SEA BREEZE Resort, where the Azerbaijani Youth Climate Declaration will be adopted, followed by the official closing ceremony.
