            BSU Conducts Research on the Biochemical and Molecular Genetic Characteristics of Persimmon Genotypes

            Research on the biochemical and molecular genetic characteristics of persimmon genotypes is being carried out at Baku State University (BSU).

            A scientific seminar entitled "Comparative Phylogenetic Analysis and Genetic Diversity of Persimmon (Diospyros L.) Species" was delivered by Natavan Bakhshaliyeva, a lecturer at the Department of Genetics of the Faculty of Biology at Baku State University (BSU).

            The seminar presented the findings of a study on the chemical, biochemical, and mineral composition, as well as the genetic diversity, of persimmon samples collected from the Balakan, Zagatala, Gakh, Sheki, and Gabala districts of the Sheki-Zagatala Economic Region. Genetic diversity was assessed using ISSR and SCoT molecular markers.

            The study included a comparative analysis of the fruit's water, dry matter, sugar, ascorbic acid, carotene, cellulose, ash, fat, nitrogen, and other biochemical parameters. Molecular genetic analysis was used to determine the levels of genetic similarity and diversity among the studied genotypes. In addition, genetic relationships among the genotypes were evaluated using the UPGMA clustering method, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), and Principal Coordinates Analysis (PCoA).

            The seminar highlighted the significance of the findings for the study of the persimmon gene pool, the identification of promising genotypes, the development of a scientific basis for breeding programs, and the conservation of biodiversity.
