The History Museum of Baku State University (BSU) was established in 1920 and serves as a valuable repository of historical facts and materials. The museum presents over a century of BSU’s rich history through "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic”, “Soviet Era and “Independence period” sections.
"Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” section is showcasing the establishment of BSU, legal documents, newspaper publications, and official seals from the university’s founding period. Soviet Era" section is highlighting BSU’s development during Soviet rule, including early diplomas within 1920-1921, rector profiles, faculty and student life, and historical artifacts such as typewriters and administrative documents. "Independence Period" is covering the transition to a modern education system, establishment of new faculties and departments, BSU’s anniversary celebrations, and notable honorary doctorate recipients since 1991.
The section of the museum reflecting the history of Baku State University (BSU) during the independence period includes copies of orders related to the transition to a new education system in the early 1990s, the establishment of new academic units—faculties and departments—, various documents related to anniversary events, photographs of distinguished figures awarded the title of BSU Honorary Doctor, samples of their diplomas, and more.
The museum also showcases exhibits such as materials on BSU faculties and their history, photographs of prominent scientists and alumni, various equipment and inventory previously used, scientific books, and other interesting artifacts.
A special section of the museum is dedicated to the quotes of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, about BSU. Additionally, books dedicated to BSU’s 100th anniversary, a commemorative postage stamp, and photographs capturing a series of jubilee events held in the country and international organizations are prominently displayed.
